The faction of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) led by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State on Thursday sought an audience with President Goodluck Jonathan to discuss the state of the nation’s economy.
The meeting of the faction attracted nine governors and two deputy governors.
In a four-point communiqué issued after the meeting held at Rivers State Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, which ended Wednesday midnight, the governors noted that the National Economic Council had not met for four months.
The communiqué read by Amaechi states: “Given the weighty allegations contained in a recent letter to Mr. President by the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on the state of the economy, members mandated the chairman to request for a meeting with the president in order to deliberate on issues of critical national importance.
“The National Economic Council meeting scheduled for December 12th, 2013 where this issue would have been addressed has been postponed indefinitely. It is instructive to note that the NEC has not been convened in four months.”
